CAMPFIRE PERMITS

A campfire permit is required for campfire use except when camping in
a developed campground. Obtain a free-of-charge campfire permit
inperson at any CalFire, Bureau of Land Management or Forest office.
WILDERNESS PERMITS
The Carson-Iceberg, Emigrant, and Mokelumne Wildernesses offer
outstanding hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding opportunities in
a natural setting largely undisturbed by modern development.
Wilderness permits are required for overnight stays. Special
regulationsapply.
TUOLUMNE WILD & SCENIC RIVER PERMITS
The Forest Service has managed rafting on the Tuolumne River since
1975. Commercial outfitters operate within a permit system under which
the number of trips andpassengers are limited. In a further effort to
protect the river resources and promote user safety,all non-commercial
floaters were also required to obtain permits through the Stanislaus
National Forest's Groveland Ranger District Office
Regional Order No. 98-02 Forest Development Roads
PACIFIC SOUTHWEST REGION
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(b), the following acts are prohibited on
any forest development road within the Pacific Southwest Region of
theForest Service. This order is effective October 1, 1998.
1. Using a road for commercial hauling without written authorization.
36 CFR 261.54(c).
2. Operating a vehicle on a bridge inviolation of a posted weight
limitation. 36 CFR 261.54(d).
3. Operating a vehicle carelessly, recklessly, or without regard for
the rights or safety of other persons, or in a manner or at a speed
that would endanger or be likely to endanger any person or property.
36 CFR 261.54 (f).
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), thefollowing persons are exempt from this order:
1. Persons with a permit specificallyauthorizing the otherwise
prohibited act or omission.
2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized
rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
Violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more
than $5,000 for an individual or$10,000 for an organization, or
imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 USC 551 and 18
USC 3559 and 3571.
This order supercedes Regional Order No. 83-3 issued September 19,
1983, and Regional Order No. 92-1 issued January 21, 1992.

Central Sierra Avalanche Advisory
This advisory covers the central Sierra Nevada between Yuba Pass on
the north and Sonora Pass on the south. It applies to backcountry
areas outside of developed ski areas only, and is updated daily during
winter storm cycles.
