Incident Overview
Current Situation: Last night, firefighters took advantage of
downslope winds to conduct burnout operations that will aid in
strengthening firelines for today's expected weather. A wind shift is
expected that will test the north, northeast and southeast parts of
the fire. Today, fire crews will workwith aviation resources to tie
fire line to the Colorado River and suppress hot areas of the
fireline. In addition, Union Pacific is workingwith firefighters to
deliver water byrail.
Due to numerous resource concerns, like oil and gas well locations,
cultural resources,threatened and endangered species, and the Wild
Horse range, four resource advisors from the area are working with
firefighters to ensure protection of resources during suppression
efforts.
Another day of hot,dry conditions with southwest winds. Winds will be
light, five miles per hour, early in the day and increase to 15 miles
per hour, with gusts up to 25 milesper hour, by late morning. The
Haines Index, which measures the stability and dryness of air over a
fire, is 6. This indicates that there is a high potential for extreme
fire behavior, intensity, and growth.

Monday, July 2- Continue reinforcing north line. Construct direct and
indirect line on south flank.
Growth Potential
Extreme - Fire can be expected to continue isolated torching and
backing with interior islands burning out. This will produce smoke in
some sections of the fire.Fire continues to threaten the community of
DeBeque & I-70 Corridor.
Terrain Difficulty
Rugged inaccessible terrain and a continous heavy fuel loading is
causing a high resistance to control.
Remarks
I-70 is open - we are asking the public and the media to not stop
onthe shoulder of I-70 in DeBeque Canyon. It is not safe and ties up
law enforcement resources to movevehicles along. Evacuation orders for
DeBeque have been lifted but residents remain on pre-evacuationnotice.
