SPECIAL FIRE RESTRICTIONS
ORDER NUMBER SJ-2O12.07 SAN JUAN NATIONAL FOREST PAGOSA RANGER DISTRICT
Pursuant to Title 16 U.S.C. $ 551,and 36 CFR $$ 261.50(a),261.50(b)
and 261.52(e), the following is prohibited from May 31,2012 at 12:00
a.m. until further notice. Entering or being on National Forest System
lands within an area bordered by, and including, Coldwater Creek from
its junction with Mosca Road (NFSR 631) southto its intersection with
the Skunk Creek Trail (NFST 598); from this point due east to Davis
Creek; south on Davis Creek to its intersection with the Piedra River;
the Piedra River from its junction with Davis Creek northeast to its
junction with Piedra Road (NFSR 631); Piedra Road (NFSR 631) from its
junction with the Piedra River nolth to the private property boundary
at the east side of the Weminuche Valley, but excluding the road
itself; from this point following the forest boundary at the southem
end of the Weminuche Valley to its intersection with Mosca Road (NFSR
631) on the west side of the Weminuche Valley;Mosca Road (NFSR 631)
west to its junction with Coldwater Creek (including the road itselt).
This closure is further depicted on the attached map hereby
incorporated a.nd included in this Order as Exhibit 1. ln addition,
signs are posted in accordance with 36 CFR $ 251.51, which will
include posting this notice at roads, trailheads, and trail junctures.
The purpose of this Fire Restriction is protection of public health
and safety during the exigencies of the Little Sand Fire. This order
supersedes and terminates Order Number SJ-2012-06 as of May 31.2012.
Pursuant to 36 CFR $ 261.50(e), the following are exempt from this
order: l. Any federal, state, or localofficial, or member of an
organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an
authorized official duty; and
2.
Persons wit}r a Forest Service permit issued by the District Ranger or
Forest Supervisor specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited
act or omission.

Violations of this prohibition are punishable by a fine of not more
than 55,000 for an individual or 510,OO0 for a corporation and/or up
to six months imprisonment (18 USc 5 3571).
