Man jailed in fatal drive-by shooting

A Houston man is in jail, charged inthe fatal drive-by shooting last
year of an 18-year-old man who had just left a Sharpstown-area
nightclub, according to the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
A judge has set $50,000 bail for Giovani Alexander Alecio, 21, who has
been charged with murder in the Nov. 19 shooting death of JulioPerez ,
court records show. Alecio was being held Monday at the Harris County
Jail .
Perez was walking on a sidewalk at7502 Clarewood when shots rang out
from a passing car about 10:40 p.m., according to an arrestwarrant
filed Friday. The vehicle sped away.
Perez was shot in the head and rushed to Ben Taub Hospital , where he
died. Investigators said Perez had just left Nuestra Raza nightclub,
which is near the shooting scene.
Police hunting for pair in string of store thefts
Houston police are searching for analleged thief who they say made off
with more than $34,000 in clothing from several Houston-area Palais
Royal stores over a two-yearperiod, Harris County prosecutors said.
Maria Mendez, also known as Martha Laura Mendez , has been charged
with organized retail theft in the cases that span from Dec. 28, 2009,
to Sept. 21, court records show.
In the first theft in December 2009, Mendez walked into a PalaisRoyal
clothing store at GreenspointMall and walked out with 20 shirts and
seven pairs of jeans stuffed inside a large bag, according to court
records.
Houston police want to question Mendez about a dozen other theftsat
Palais Royal stores in Houston and Harris County.
Investigators said the suspect wasaccompanied by a male suspect in
each of the thefts, which netted 512 shirts, 80 pairs of shorts and 66
pairs of jeans.
The second suspect remained at large, police said.
Police say driver in deadly crash was using PCP
Police have identified a driver who was allegedly under the influence
of PCP when he slammed into another car, leaving a man and woman dead
in a traffic wreck earlyMonday morning in southwest Houston.
Theodore Adolphus Hargrove , 33, is charged with two counts of
intoxication manslaughter in connection with the two-car crash,which
happened about 12:20 a.m. at 2525 Southwest Freeway on theservice road
near Kirby, according to the Houston Police Department .
Police said Hargrove was traveling northbound on the freeway service
road at a high rate of speed in a Chevrolet Impala and ran a red
light. He then veered from the roadand smashed into the driver's side
door of a blue sedan exiting at the driveway of a gasoline station,
police added.
The man and woman in the blue sedan died at the scene. Their names
have not been released.
Hargrove was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital. His condition wasnot
released, but police said he hada broken pelvis.
Police said it was later determined that Hargrove was under the
influence of PCP. He was taken into custody.
