...STRONG WINDS AND HEAVY RAIN THIS WEEKEND FOR ANCHORAGE...
A STRONG STORM WILL DEVELOP LATE THIS WEEK WHICH WILL IMPACT THE
ANCHORAGE AREA SATURDAY AFTERNOON INTO SUNDAY. WHILE THERE IS STILL
SOME UNCERTAINTY WITH THE STRENGTH OF THE WINDS AT THIS TIME IT DOES
NOT LOOK LIKE THIS STORM WILL BE NEARLY AS STRONG AS THE STORM FROM
LAST WEEK. HOWEVER THERE IS STILL A HIGHER THAN NORMAL CHANCE OF
UPROOTED TREES ANDRESULTING POWER OUTAGES DUE TO LAST WEEKS STORM.
MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL WITH THIS STORM WILL ALSO KEEPTHE GROUND
SATURATED AND EASIER TO MOVE.
FORECAST SPEEDS AT THIS TIME ARE VERY PRELIMINARY AND COULD CHANGE
SIGNIFICANTLY OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. THE TIMING OF THE STRONGEST
WINDS WILL ALSO VARY BY LOCATION ACROSS THE CITY. THE BEST ESTIMATES
AT THIS TIME:
UPPER HILLSIDE AND TURNAGAIN ARM: SOUTHEAST WIND INCREASING TO 55 TO
65 MPH SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND FURTHER INCREASING TO AROUND 80 MPH
SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING.
LOWER HILLSIDE, EAST ANCHORAGE AND EAGLE RIVER: SOUTHEAST WIND 10 TO
20 MPH DURING THE DAY ON SATURDAY INCREASING TO 35 TO 50 MPH AFTER
MIDNIGHT SATURDAY NIGHT... PERSISTING THROUGH THEMORNING ON SUNDAY.
REST OF ANCHORAGE: SOUTHEASTWIND TO 15 MPH ON SATURDAY INCREASING TO
25 TO 40 MPH AFTER MIDNIGHT SATURDAY NIGHT... PERSISTING THROUGH
THEMORNING ON SUNDAY.
BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON THE MAIN FRONT SHOULD HAVE PASSED THROUGH WHICH
WILL USHER IN SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WINDS IN THE 20 TO 35 MPH RANGE...
WITH THE STRONGEST WINDS BEING IN SOUTH AND WEST ANCHORAGE NEAR THE
INLET.
ONCE AGAIN THIS STORM DOES NOT LOOK TO BE AS STRONG AS LAST WEEK'S
EVENT, BUT COULD STILL HAVE SOME ADVERSE AFFECTS IN THE ANCHORAGE
