air temperatures were above normal values over most locations except
near normal over Queen Maud Gulf. Ice melt was 1 to 2 weeks earlier
than normal over most locations except 2 to 3 weeks earlier than
normal over the southeastern Beaufort Sea, west of Banks Island and in
M'Clure Strait. Weather forecast for August 1 to 31.Average air
temperatures will be above normal values over the whole area.
Tuktoyaktuk Peninsula.August 1 to 31.Ice free. Mackenzie Bay to Cape
Bathurst.August 1 to 31.Ice free. Beaufort Sea south of 75°N.August 1
to 15.East of 145°W and south of 72°40'N and within 40 miles west of
Banks Island open water. West of 145°W and south of 72°40'N very open
to open drift first-year ice with areas of 2 tenths of old ice
becoming open water along the Alaskan Coast during the second week of
August. North of 72°40'N open drift to close pack old ice. August 16
to 31.East of 146°W and south of 73°N open water. West of 146°W and
south of 73°N isolated areas of very open drift old ice. North of 73°N

Summary for July 15 to 31.Average air temperatures were above normal
values over the whole area. Ice melt was 1 to 2 weeks earlier than

events.Very large Petermann ice island located in Petermann Fiord
slowly drifting westward. Another Petermann ice island located north
of Prince Leopold Island drifting eastward. Weather forecast for

over the whole area. Baffin Bay.August 1 to 15.Isolated areas of very
open to open drift first-year ice over Melville Bay and within 50
miles of the shore along Baffin Island from ClydeRiver to south of
Pond Inlet. Isolated areas of 1 tenth of old ice embedded in the pack
ice along Baffin Island. Icemelting completely during the first week
of August. Bergy water elsewhere. However open drift to close pack
first-year ice with areas of 2 tenths of old ice drifting out of
