11 AM SAT: THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A RIVER STATEMENT
FOR THE RIVERS AND STREAMS ALONG THE WESTERN SLOPES OF THE ALASKARANGE
INCLUDING THE SWIFT.
STONY... AND HOHOLITNA RIVERS. ALSO WESTERN SUSITNA BASINS INCLUDING
THE HEADWATERS OF THE YENTNA AND CHULITNA RIVERS...
RAINFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES ARE EXPECTED ON THE WESTERN
SLOPES OF THE ALASKA RANGE FROM JUST NORTHOF LAKE CLARK TO RAINY PASS.
STREAMS AFFECTED WILL INCLUDETHE UPPER HEADWATERS OF THE MULCHATNA...
HOHOLITNA... STONY... SWIFT... AND SOUTH FORK OF THE KUSKOKWIM RIVER.
THE HEADWATERS OF THE YENTNAAND CHULITNA BASINS MAY ALSO SEE AMOUNTS
FROM 1 TO 1.5 INCHES. THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED FROM 4 AM
TO 4 PM SUNDAY WITH LESSER AMOUNTS THROUGH EARLY MONDAY MORNING.
SIGNIFICANT RISES ARE EXPECTED ON ALL OF THE STREAMS IN THE AREA...
WITH SMALL STREAMS RISING RAPIDLY TO BANKFULL AS THE SYSTEM PASSES
THROUGH. THESE STREAMS RESPOND QUICKLY TO RAINFALL AND WILL ALL FALL
QUICKLY AS THE RAIN TAPERS OFF BY EARLY MONDAY MORNING. DRIFTWOOD AND
OTHERDEBRIS WILL MOVE DOWNSTREAM AS GRAVEL BARS ARE
INUNDATED.RECREATIONAL USERS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR RAPID RISES IN
RIVER LEVELS SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING AND BE AWARE THAT CROSSING
SWOLLEN STREAMS WILL BE VERY DANGEROUS. CAMPERS ALONG THESE STREAMS
SHOULD SEEK HIGHER GROUND.
